How Do JEE Mains and JEE Advance Differ From One Another?

Despite the connections between JEE Main and JEE Advanced, it is impossible to ignore their differences. It is essential that students comprehend the distinction between JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is alternatively administered by the IITs and the NTA, with JEE Main being overseen by the NTA. To be qualified to sit the JEE Advanced exam, students must pass the JEE Main exam and place within the top 2,50,000 (statistics for 2022). The differences between JEE Main and JEE Advanced are thoroughly explained here.

What separates JEE Main from JEE Advanced is:

There are several distinctions between JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Following is a list of some important distinctions:

Curriculum:

JEE Main is held in order to offer admission into BE or B.Tech programmes at several NITs as well as other government and private institutions across the country. The prominent Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) demand JEE Advanced as a prerequisite for admission.

Who is eligible to apply?

In order to take the JEE Main exam, no minimum score is necessary. However, in order to be considered for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, candidates for the JEE Advanced exam must obtain at least a 75% (or 65% for SC/ST students) on the Class 12 board exam and must place in the top 2,50,000 in the JEE Main (2022) exam. Applicants who passed their 12th grade exams in 2022, 2023 are the only ones who can take this exam.

Attempts guideline:

For the JEE Mains exam, there is no limit on the number of attempts; however, for the JEE Advanced exam, aspirants may show up twice throughout two consecutive years.

Examining Approach:

The JEE Main Paper is made up of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Only online testing is used for Paper 1 (B.Tech./BE) (computer-based modality). There is only an offline version of Paper 2 (B.Arch./B.Planning) available (pen and paper-based examination).

Two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, make up the JEE Advanced Exam. The JEE Advanced test is only administered using the online (computer-based examination) format. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 must be passed by students seeking admission to engineering programmes.

Papers 1 and 2 must be passed by students in order to apply for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT), which is necessary for enrollment in the B.Arch. programme at the IITs. Students may apply for the AAT exam following their success in the JEE Advanced Exam.

Type of paper:

In the JEE Main Question Paper, there are multiple-choice questions in the fields of mathematics, physics, and chemistry (Paper 1). On the other hand, the first and second JEE Advanced Papers contain questions on the same subjects that are of an objective nature.

Syllabus:

There are also differences in the respective syllabuses for the two tests. The JEE Main curriculum covers the subjects of mathematics, physics, and chemistry for classes 11 and 12. The exam for JEE Advanced will also cover a few additional topics.

The JEE Advanced syllabus is more comprehensive than the JEE Main syllabus. It covers subjects that are not covered in the JEE Main syllabus. For instance, while they are not covered in the Mains syllabus, topics like "Electrochemistry," "Thermal Physics," and "Nuclear Chemistry" are covered in the Advanced level test.
